On his 80th birthday, I'd like to point out that there are two lines in his work that seem to have influenced Roland. "I've never been laid so low" (from "Mother and Child Reunion") -> "Laid So Low (Tears Roll Down)" and "Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together" (from "America") -> "Ladybird" ("let us be lovers, we'll melt after midnight") In this thread we learned that TFF covered "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" live, or at least a snippet: tearsforfears.boards.net/thread/213/audio-clip-band-fooling-stageAnd of course, Simon & Garfunkel were a duo of two singers who often fought and where one was the "writer" and the other the "pretty boy".

Roland has been more forthcoming about crediting Paul Simon as an influence in recent interviews. In the "My Record Collection" interview, he chose Still Crazy After All These Years as one of his favourite albums. And they also acknowledged that the SFTBC cover was reminiscent of a Simon & Garfunkel cover - it's Bookends:

Forgot to mention: The lyrics of "My Demons" have been compared by Roland to "The Boy in the Bubble".
