Obviously, it had to happen that after not looking into the forum for a mere few days, some nitwit made a spam post. It's not really a big problem but iveivan did the right thing by reporting the post. That way I get a notification in my admin area. Of course, if I don't look into the forum, I don't get notified, and given how little action there is on the forum right now, I always look at every new post when I see that there are new posts. Nonetheless, I encourage reporting of spam posts

Just a reminder, if you see spam and I'm not around: DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS! Not even if they are posted 24 times in a row

For the first time in the existence of this forum, "people" have actually created accounts to spam. Needless to say, I've banned all of them so far. To celebrate this dubious milestone, I also created a new group. You can see all banned accounts at tearsforfears.boards.net/members?group=4&view=groupI think it's good to have that list handy if a new member appears with a name similar to those but hasn't posted yet.

If this gets any worse, I'll reserve the option of manually approving registrations... It's really become annoying, hasn't it?

Pretty annoying, yes.
Can you see if the different spammers are the same IP address and put a ban on that?
Is there an option that people can register but not post for a day or so? That may be enough to put the spammer off.

That may be enough to put the spammer off. I always ban the IP but they just come back with a different one I'm not sure I can put that as an option. I could probably restrict their rights but it would effectively be the same as having to approve registrations.

I've now set it so that every newcomer is assigned to the group "New Star" and can only write in a few parts of the board until I remove them from the group.

Well, of course I missed one board (this Admin tool could do with a retool...) Should not happen again now, though.
