SWR1 played these songs at Curt's birthday:
Everybody Wants to Rule the World Woman in Chains Sowing the Seeds of Love Words (Curt Smith solo) Everybody Loves a Happy Ending
And this was what Roland's was celebrated with:
Shout Everybody Wants to Rule the World Woman in Chains Advice for the Young at Heart Break It Down Again (cut off) Everybody Loves a Happy Ending (cut off during part 2)
Rather obvious choices there. However, on Saturday, 3rd of September, 2016, a listener requested "Badman's Song"... and they played it! OMG! Mind blown! The longest song TFF ever recorded.... and it's on the radio!

Jesus.
What was that on Wednesday (22nd March 2017)?
Jochen Stöckle moderates the SWR1 program from 18:00 to 19:30. OK. But on that day, he calls Günter Schneidewind (who is called a 'fan' of the band) to him to talk about Tears for Fears! Apparently this is the day when they announced their breakup way back when (in 1992). Of course, there are lots and lots of slightly wrong statements (there is no mention of the Curtless TFF and the reunited band is said to perform 'sporadically'. No word of the long TFF/H&O tour this year or the new album. Supposedly the band were 'past their peak' at that point already. Blah blah blah) and they only play "Mad World". At least they do refute any comparisons to Wham! (yes!), explain that both Roland and Curt sing some songs and Roland's astrology spleen is blamed for the breakup... hadn't heard THAT explanation in a long while.
Shortly afterwards (somewhere between 19:30 and 20:00) I flick through stations and Jens Zielinsik from Radio Ton talks about 1989 (ah, the good old days) and casually says: "And what was on the radio in 1989? 'Sowing the Seeds of Love'." It's the short radio edit, by the way.
Later that same day, I hop to SWR3 who are just in the middle of playing "Shout"! This is shortly before the 23:00 news, by the way...
And shortly AFTER the 23:00 news, SWR1 DJ Adrian Beric again starts talking about the breakup and plays what ? - "Shout". Again faded out during the guitar solo, boo hoo! He puts another twist to the story (and goes a little closer to the truth) by pointing out that the 22nd March 1992 was only the day the record company announced Curt's departure, but that the actual breakup had already happened long before. He also makes no mention of Roland's astrological leaning but instead uses Curt's marriage problems as the only reason for the split. Whatever. Anyway, the nice thing is that he plays "Break It Down Again" and "Closest Thing to Heaven" (the latter sounding pretty weak compared to Shout and BITA - poor mastering also translates badly on the radio!!!) but the not so nice thing is that he also does not talk about the details of those two songs (first album without Curt & the reunion) or the future of TFF.
Normally people celebrate birthdays, founding dates, release or success dates, even reunions (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin etc.) - but Tears for Fears get talked about in light of their breakup!!!
I shouldn't be complaining but this was one weird day for a TFF fan. (On the whole six songs in six hours!)

HR 1 played the TFF version of "Ashes to Ashes" on June 25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of all the TFF songs I've never heard on any station that was one of the least expected ones.

I like this thread. Even if I don't have access to the same radio stations, I'm a fan of the radio in general. And I'd be interesting in checking this thread to see when songs are played. In fact, I think this will be the first thread on this forum I "subscribe" to, lol. Doing a search for "SWR1", it appears to be an online German radio station. Jules, can you maybe make a post with what some of these radio stations are? (Call letters, online or transmission, and perhaps language)?

I love hearing less expected songs on the radio. Even if it's not one of my favorites by that artist, it's still a cool moment to hear them.

Yes, since I mainly listen to FM radio, those stations are German radio stations. Web radio link for SWR1: www.swr.de/swr1/bw/-/id=233362/did=7656/nid=233362/pv=mplayer/sdpgid=1480115/webRadioOrWebTV=true/17s3haq/index.html
Starting soon: the annual SWR1 Hitparade! I voted for "Shout" and four other songs, but it never made the top 1000 in recent years
HR1: www.hr1.de/index.htmlRadio Ton: www.radioton.de/nc/programm/streamplayer.htmlBut obviously, anybody is free to share whatever radio station may be playing TFF songs... particularly the more obscure ones.
