You can try out another theme if you like. I named it "Blue Green". Please tell me if you have any suggestions for tweaks or changes to either theme.

I've just done a lot of tweaking on the existing theme and created two new themes. One is "Mobile" - very similar to the default view but the width is different so that the banner fits on a phone screen better. If you often access the forum from a phone and don't like ProBoards' simplified mobile view, I recommend that you set the Mobile theme as default (go to "Profile", "Edit Profile" and "Settings").
Since people are increasingly becoming sensitive to bright colours on screens, I gave the default and mobile view a bit of a reddish tint. Your screen isn't broken! I experimented with using an even darker colour but it didn't look too appealing to me, and text gets hard to read for someone like me that likes black on white.
But! If you need something really dark, I created a new theme dominated by dark blue tones with white/orange text on it called "Goodnight". Currently, that theme is pretty simple, i.e. no background or image banner - as you can see from the first paragraph, the banner really creates a challenge. If you make it too wide, it doesn't fit on a phone - if it's not wide enough, it looks bad when stretched/repeated on a computer.
So if you are on your phone and you don't like that the banner says "ear for fea", just switch the view.
I also had to change the settings of the Recently Updated Threads sidebar because, while it looks nice on a computer, it completely destroys the mobile view to a point where I couldn't even access the forum anymore (everything was pushed out of the visible area). And unfortunately, I can't change it so that the sidebar is only shown when you're on a computer; there is an option to put it elsewhere when viewed from a phone but even with that setting activated, the forum's width gets narrower. The plugin affects all views and I can't make it so that it's only used when you're using the default view but not the mobile one... So the recently updated threads are now above the shoutbox.
Hope these changes are improvements. If they aren't, just tell me what could be done better.
