I'm shocked and saddened. The music world has lost a great artist. Mark Hollis was an exceptional, gifted singer, a fantastic songwriter, and a visionary musician whose sound ideals exceeded his playing abilities (he'd admit himself that he wasn't a virtuoso player), which enabled him to create some of the most sublime music put on record in the second half of the 20th century. If you haven't heard the albums "The Colour of Spring" and "Spirit of Eden" yet, you should definitely do so, and listen to them far more than once too.
And I'm angered. The fact that this talented creator would basically stop making music altogether has often confused and irritated me; but it was his decision and who knows the reasons. What really angers me is that his passing barely gets any attention. Apart from his own achievements, he must surely be classed as one of the most influential musicians after The Beatles: Myriads of bands cited Talk Talk as an influence.

This is what Roland says:
"He was a god among so many mere mortals of 80s music. In fact, to brand what he did with Talk Talk as “‘80s music” is to discredit the genius that seeped out of his melodies and lyrics – lyrics that sometimes barely made it out of his mouth, as though he wanted to keep the world’s best kept secret all to himself."
Perfectly put, Sir Raoul!
